VI International Conference on Landscape and Urban Horticulture

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 6th International Conference on Landscape and Urban Horticulture that will take place in Athens, Greece, June 20-25, 2016, under the auspices of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) and the Laboratory of Floriculture & Landscape Architecture of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA).

The theme of the Conference “Landscape and urban horticulture in pursuit of social, environmental and economic wellness” emphasises the need to reflect on our contemporary way of life in relation to Landscape Design and Urban Horticulture. Increased urban building density and urban sprawl have tipped the balance between nature and humans leading to unsustainable urban development characterised by social, environmental and economic problems. Urban Horticulture plays an integral role in securing the benefit of human wellbeing. Thus the 6th International Conference on Landscape and Urban Horticulture aims to focus on identifying contemporary urban aesthetic, environmental and social problems and intensify possible solutions through interdisciplinary scientific collaboration for dispersion of knowledge, expertise and technology.

Athens known worldwide for its ancient history and monuments is a lively contemporary city that accommodates for every taste; plenty of archaeological and historical sites and museums, various entertainments including a lively nightlife, shopping, pleasant Mediterranean climate and a unique location to escape to beaches or nearby Aegean islands. The Conference will be held at the Royal Olympic Hotel located within the heart of Athens, in walking distance to the most popular archaeological sites, shopping and entertainment areas (website’s banner presents the view from the venue’s roof garden bar-restaurant).

The Organizing Committee has made every effort to create an informative and enjoyable programme that will include scientific sessions with oral and poster presentations, as well as technical tours and entertaining social events. The scientific programme will include a broad spectrum of subject areas on design, maintenance, management, environmental, ecological, and social aspects of landscape and urban horticulture. Participants will have the chance to visit Athens green projects and sites. While at the social events will have the chance to taste local delicacies under the entertaining sounds of Greek music.
