Objective:To investigate the expression of livin and its relationship with survivin in condyloma acuminatum(CA). Methods:Immunohistochemical streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) method was used to detect the expression of livin and survivin in 46 cases of CA and 10 cases of prepuce from normal men. Results:The percentages of cases of CA showing expression of livin and survivin in the epidermis were 56% and 69.9%, respectively, while only 20% of normal prepuce samples expressed these two proteins. There was a close correlation between the expression of livin and survivin in CA. Conclusion:The expression of livin and survivin in CA is significantly higher than in the normal tissues. It indicated that both proteins may play an important role in the pathway of development of CA . There is a close correlation in the expression of these two proteins in CA, indicating that they might exhibit additive or synergistic effects in inhibiting apoptosis and promoting development of the lesions.
