A systematic investigation of the effect of material inhomogeneity on pipe buckling is presented in the paper. The material properties of the pipe are obtained by a series of tensile tests. Numerical simulations are carried out to evaluate the effect of material inhomogeneity on pipe buckling. Post-buckling behavior is also simulated, and the mechanism of cracking is explained. The results show that the pipe buckling can be caused by weakened sections. The internal pressure and the ratio of diameter to thickness both have significant effect on pipe buckling.
