The process of the 3D visualization modeling in the pipelines GIS is analyzed, which includes the 3D modeling and the visualization. And as a core issue, the 3D modeling of the pipelines GIS is discussed and researched. According to the surface modeling and the volume modeling, the modeling methods are classified and introduced. And the characteristics of each method are summarized in the paper. Based on the discussion on the surface modeling and the volume modeling, the mixed modeling method is discussed and researched, which is the mainstream modeling method in recent years. And with the development of the computer, improvement of the performance, and the deepening of the modeling algorithm, the surface modeling method will be completely replaced by the mixed modeling method. And the application of the mixed modeling method will reach a basis for the research and application of the volume modeling in the pipelines GIS.
