ABSTRACT

With the improvement of excavation requirements in domestic municipal pipeline engineering, pipe jacking methods are applied into the municipal pipeline engineering more frequently. Utilizing ground penetrating radar to detect underground cavity and non-dense areas which are caused by soil disturbance in construction, is becoming an important means of construction quality inspecting and prediction technology of post-construction settlement. Based on the sewage pipeline project in Shang Hang Road, Feng Wei Newly-Developed Area, Xi’an, we detect the size and distribution of construction caves which are upper and both sides of the pipes by using the method of inspecting ground and pipe with ground penetrating radar and on-site observation. The paper presents some detection methods and preliminary solutions of non-dense sand layer caused by construction process in floodplain sands layer of non-collapsible loess regions, and summarizes detection technology and precautions of pipe jacking construction in sand layer.
