Fundamentals and mechanism analysis of biomass pyrolysis process in a newly designed rotary kiln with perturbative internals
Abstract Accepted
Large quantities of stalk resources are produced in China, but three million stalks are incinerated which wastes resources and pollutes the environment. Pyrolysis for biochar is the critical core technology to achieve high-value utilization of stalks. The pyrolysis technology of indirectly heated rotary kiln has the flexible material adaptability and simple operation, therefore it has been wildly used. However, this technology still has some disadvantages, such as long residence time of the gaseous product, many difficulties in accurate control of different material layer temperature, and hard move for the particles located in the mixed dead zone, which restrict the technology development. In this paper, a newly designed rotary kiln with perturbative internals was proposed, which enhanced heat and mass transfer, reinforced the particle shift, and reduced the residence time of the gaseous product, thus effectively solving the problem mentioned above. The systematical research work for this pyrolysis technology was carried out to clarify the reaction mechanism. This study offered an effective technology path for comprehensive utilization of stalks in China.
