The new discovery of the Jurassic strata under the middle proterozoic thrust-nappe in Niuyingzi depression, westhern Liaoning Province, and its geological significance.

For a long time, the main target strata for oil and gas exploration in niuyingzi depression in western liaoning province are middle neoproterozoic，the beipiao formation of Mesozoic is not found in this area.A set of dark mudstone formations was discovered under the Mesoproterozoic carbonate rock nappe along the Niuyingzi depression in Yanshan-Liaoning area and studied the data of drill holes, lithologic assembly and paleontology fossils. The result indicates that the geological age of the sedimentary strata is Early-Middle Jurassic, and the stratigraphic horizon is correlated with Beipiao Formation in western Liaoning Province. The organic geochemical index indicates that the strata has high abundance of organic matter and great potential for hydrocarbon generation, and is a high quality source rock worthy of attention. The confirmation of the geological age of this sedimentary strata offers important information for studying tectonic evolution and searching for the Early-Middle Jurassicbed of source rock in the prospecting for oil and natural gas.
