The 9th International Conference on English Language Teaching (ELT) In China (ELT2020)

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is currently one of innovative fields in college English teaching in China. Extensive research into EAP has been conducted to investigate the necessity and ways of EAP in English language teaching including developing academic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. However, few studies have been undertaken on the application of EAP in English majors. The current call for cultivating compound talents in English majors in China has also highlighted the need to explore how EAP can be better placed in different universities. Thus, this study aims to fill these gaps by conducting a comparative analysis between two universities to find out whether and how EAP should be applied to English majors in different universities and the impact of EAP on English majors. Participants in this research will include students and academic departmental staff from those two universities, and data will be collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. This study will provide some pedagogical implications for English language teaching in China, and thus contribute to the educational reform in English majors. Suggestions will also be made in the end for future improvement of EAP teaching and learning.
