Force ripple is the primary drawback of tubular linear switched reluctance actuators (TLSRAs) in the application of vehicle active suspension system. Based on finite element analysis (FEA), a new method based on multi-stage translator poles is proposed to reduce force ripple for TLSRAs in this paper. The translator pole is considered as six independent modules based on the transversal flux distribution from FEA. Considering the symmetry of radial force, six modules can be divided into two or three groups. Each group has certain displacement with the adjacent group in the longitudinal direction. The sensitivity analysis of force ripple to module displacement is carried out and the optimized results are compared. The computed results show effectiveness of the proposed method.
