Abstract
In this presentation, an overview of the development of the Computational Multiphase Fluid Dynamics (CMFD) and measurement technology for the multiphase fluid flow in a complex geometry will be presented. With the application of the Euerlian Eulerian method, population balance model, closure models for interfacial force, Algebraic interfacial area density model (AIAD), a Generalized TwO-Phase flow concept (GENTOP) was developed which is able to simulate a multiscale multiphase flow which contains large free surface structure between liquid and vapor, small dispersed bubbles and droplets simultaneously. Simulation and modeling requires also verification and validation from experiment data. Here, two non-invasive technologies (Gamma ray CT, ultra fast X_ray CT) which are able to capture cross-sectional phase distribution will be introduced. The developed numerical methods and experimental technologies have high potential to be applied in the research of the multiphase flow in a media with complex structures like rock or soil.

Wei Ding received his Ph.D. Degree in process engineering at University Duisburg Essen, 2012, Germany. From 2011 he is a research fellow/associate in TU Dresen and later Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf (HZDR). Currently, he corresponds to a group in the research field of thermal-hydraulics in HZDR. As a principal investigator (PI), he was involved in projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), and so on. His research interests include thermal hydraulics, computational multiphase fluid dynamics, flow pattern transition, wall boiling wetting, critical heat flux, bubble dynamics, wetting, etc
