Irrigation area engineering is an effective project for the rational allocation and utilization of water resources and the solution of agricultural irrigation water use. The irrigation project has a long duration and involves a wide range of areas. Before starting the project, a scientific and comprehensive analysis and demonstration of the potential water environmental impacts should be conducted. Taking the "14th Five Year Plan" continued construction and modernization renovation projects of Simashan irrigation areas in Anhui Province as an example, through current situation investigation and relevant data review, this paper analyzes the geographical location, engineering composition, irrigation environment status, and water resource development and utilization in the project area. It predicts and evaluates the impact of large-scale irrigation areas supporting and modernization renovation projects on water environment, and points out the issues that need to be paid attention to in environmental evaluation, The final analysis concludes that the water environment in this study area is in a basic coordinated state. The construction of irrigation projects is the foundation of regional ecological agriculture construction, which has a strong supporting function in promoting and gradually improving the ecological environment quality of the region. Its main water environment impact can be reduced or improved through corresponding water environment protection measures, achieving coordinated development of economy, society and environment, and harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
