Key urban and rural towns threatened by mountain floods are the focal points of attention in the current survey and assessment of mountain flood hazards. Conducting inundation analysis on these towns is beneficial for scientifically guiding flash flood disaster prevention and control efforts. This study focuses on Xinglong Community in Guanba Town, Chongqing as the subject of research, employs the HEC-RAS two-dimensional unsteady flow model for flood inundation simulations. It verifies and analyzes the results with existing survey and assessment findings, utilizing ArcGIS to create maps of inundation areas for return periods of 5 years, 20 years, and 100 years, and tallies the corresponding disasters. The findings indicate that the HEC-RAS model is a feasible and effective approach for flood inundation simulations in urban and rural towns. These research results offer significant reference value for flash flood inundation simulations, flash flood warnings, and flood prevention and disaster mitigation in urban and rural areas.
