Advances in the morphological evolution mechanism and influences of river-connecting lakes in the Changjiang River

Subtheme 7: Sediment Regulation and Management > Topic 1: Sediments Transport Dynamics

Based on extensive review of relevant literatures at home and abroad, this paper summarizes and analyses the research progress on three hot issues of water and sediment transport law, evolution law and impact on flood and dry regulation function of two Tongjiang lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake, and points out the aspects to be strengthened in the future according to the shortcomings of current research. It mainly includes: 1. Quantitative revealing of the evolution mechanism of the two lakes under natural and man-made influences, including the evolution process of the two lakes during the period of scarce data, identification of the impact of various natural factors on the evolution of the two lakes, and the natural evolution of the two lakes during the period of intensified human activities, etc. (2) Forecasting the trend of long-term and wide-range erosion and deposition situation in the future of the two lakes, realizing the transformation from total sediment deposition forecast of the two lakes to prediction of spatial and temporal distribution pattern change of sediment deposition; (3) Indicative assessment of the impact of the evolution of the two lakes on flood and dry regulation function, including index research to characterize the flood and dry regulation function of the lakes and their response to different scouring and silting scenarios in the future.
