Research on the Application of Aluminum Nitride Ceramics as Heat Transfer Materials in Environmentally Friendly Gas Insulated Switchgear

Replacing SF6 with traditional environmentally friendly gases such as dry air as the insulation medium is the development direction of medium voltage switchgear. However, the convective heat dissipation ability of air is weaker than that of SF6, which has become a bottleneck restricting of the high current environmentally friendly switchgear. Aluminum nitride is a ceramic material with a thermal conductivity of around 200W/m • K and excellent insulation performance. This article proposes a method of using aluminum nitride ceramic as an insulating thermal conductor to enhance the heat dissipation capacity of inflatable switchgear. The specific structure is that one end of the aluminum nitride ceramic is fixed to the heat concentration point on the main circuit, and the other end is fixed to the shell of the switchgear. In order to verify the effectiveness of this method, a simulation model of a typical gas insulated switchgear was established, and multi field coupling simulation of electromagnetic field, temperature field, and airflow field was conducted. Based on the simulation model, a prototype was manufactured, and the insulation and temperature rise tests were conducted. Simulation and experiments have shown that using this method can reduce the maximum temperature rise of the conductor in this model by about 10K without affecting the insulation performance. If aluminum nitride ceramics can be cheap enough in the future, the method proposed is expected to be applied in gas insulated switchgear to enhance its heat dissipation capability.
