A molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) is a type of low switching device used to break fault current. When the moving electrode operates the switching function, the arc is ignited and arc plasma flows in the arc chamber. To reduce the current to zero, the arc is extinguished through a process in which the voltage is increased in the form of an arc plasma. Therefore, arc shape is important to determine electrical characteristics during switching operation. Calculate the arc plasma phenomenon by simulation to predict the arc behavior and voltage. Essential for improving the switching performance of the device.

In this study, circuit model were considered. Effects on arc voltage and arc current are identified. The simulation results are compared with the experimental results to show an agreement in the arc voltage.
