Simulated nitrogen addition serves as a crucial experimental technique in investigating how ecosystems respond to atmospheric nitrogen deposition. The choice of nitrogen form, quantity, and application method significantly influences experimental outcomes. This study specifically examines nitrogen application methods, focusing on advancements in the field. Building upon traditional manual application, fixed-equipment spraying, and aerial spraying methods, this article introduces a novel approach utilizing drones for canopy-level nitrogen application. This innovative method aims to realistically replicate atmospheric nitrogen deposition without causing ecosystem harm, while ensuring precision, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The article details the background, operational procedures, and practical applications of this drone-based method, which has been successfully implemented in Qinling Mountains forests, China. By employing this approach, the study aims to enhance our understanding of forest ecosystem responses to nitrogen deposition and contribute valuable scientific insights into how ecosystems may respond amidst global environmental changes.
