Abstract
To address the need for sustainable, simple and elegant bridges that harmonize seamlessly with the natural environment in ecologically sensitive wildlife protection zones, a novel precast Corrugated Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (CUC) arch bridge was proposed in the current study. It combines the benefits of corrugated sections and UHPC material to achieve robust crossing capabilities, adaptable foundations, high corrosion resistance, low maintenance requirements, and minimal ecological disturbance. An innovative mold was developed to streamline the construction of CUC arches. A CUC arch was fabricated using this mold and subjected to a quarter-span concentrated load test to evaluate its structural performance and compare it with that of a conventional reinforced concrete (CRC) arch of identical dimensions. Key performance metrics, including failure modes, load-carrying capacity, and mechanical properties, were evaluated. The results demonstrated that the CUC arch exhibited a ductile four-hinge failure mode under asymmetric loading, significantly enhanced load-bearing capacity and stiffness, and reduced material usage compared to the CRC arch. This study provides valuable insights for optimizing CUC arch designs and promoting their widespread adoption in engineering practice.
