Research on Sea Ice Drift Data Based on the Super-resolution Images from the Fengyun 3D Microwave radiometer Imagery

Abstract
Sea ice movement plays a crucial role in regulating polar air sea flux and oceanic freshwater balance. However, currently satellite remote sensing of sea ice velocity based on microwave radiometer imagery has shortcomings such as low spatial resolution and large errors in summer. This study proposes a new framework for retrieving sea ice drift based on super-resolution brightness temperature data from the FY-3D satellite microwave imager (MWRI), and obtains daily sea ice velocity in Arctic and Antarctic with a spatial resolution of approximately 20 km. The new method has three major characteristics: (1) adopting an optimized template selection scheme, which can reduce the misjudgment of sea ice velocity; (2) The summer sea ice velocity relies entirely on retrieval for the 36 GHz brightness temperature rather than wind reanalysis, with strong data independence and high spatial coverage; (3) Sea ice velocity uncertainty estimation with spatiotemporal variations was obtained based on the maximum cross-correlation values. Compared with the same type of OSI-455 ice velocity, the annual average spatial correlation coefficient of MWRI ice velocity in Antarctica and Arctic is above 0.88. With the rapid reduction of polar sea ice, the new ice velocity inversion framework has important application potential in monitoring sea ice changes.
