Abstract
The pursuit of sustainable water, food, and energy security constitutes a critical trilemma, particularly within multi-scale complex systems where interventions in one sector may trigger unforeseen consequences in others. Conventional and siloed approaches often fail to capture these cross-sectoral and cross-scalar feedback loops, resulting in inefficient and unsustainable outcomes. Addressing this gap, deciphering the complex trade-offs and synergies within the water-energy-food nexus (WEFN) through interdisciplinary methodologies has emerged as a pressing scientific priority. This study proposes a novel integrated framework to systematically capture the WEFN system's multi-scale, multi-level, multi-objective, dynamic, and cross-dimensional characteristics, as well as its inherent uncertainties.
