Abstract
Microbial electrochemical systems (MES) coupled with microbial metabolisms and electrochemical redox reactions are considered to be promising alternatives for the degradation of contaminants. In this reports, state-of-the-art MESs for enhanced pollutant removal are described and the removal mechanisms based on MESs are discussed.
