A Novel Biogeography-based Optimization with Selection Operator of Differential Evolution

Abstract—Biogeography-based Optimization (BBO) is the global optimization heuristic algorithm that has been developed in recent years. BBO has two operators, and the one is migration operator another one is mutation operator. Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm is a relatively mature global optimization algorithm. The main operators of DE include mutation, crossover and selection. Among them, mutation and crossover are respectively very similar to migration and mutation of BBO algorithm. In this paper, the BBO algorithm is introduced selection operator of DE to prevent worse solution from destroying solution set. The advantages of DE and BBO can be combined. In the end, a large number of experiments have been used to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. From the experiment results obtained by 14 benchmark functions, we can know that the new optimization algorithm BBO/DE can get comparable even better results compared with traditional algorithms.
