Introduction

With the rapid development and application of nanotechnology, the engineered nanoparticles (NPs) are increasingly released into the environment. Upon their unique physicochemical properties, NPs in aquatic environments are prone to aggregate and precipitate, which are dependent on both solution chemistry and other natural conditions. Also, the released nanoparticles may be toxic to organisms, and the NPs taken up by organisms could be transferred along food chain, thus causing potential risk to ecosystem and food safety. However, nanotechnology is being applied in environmental monitoring and protection such as detection, removal and degradation of contaminants, which has attracted great research attention. Therefore, thorough investigation on environmental behaviors, biological responses and environmental applications of nanoparticles and nano-enabled products will provide important information and scientific support for the rapid and sustainable development of nanotechnology. The 1stand 2ndInternational Symposiums on “Environmental Impact of Engineered Nanoparticles” were successfully held in Qingdao in 2015 and 2016, respectively. These two symposiums received very positive responses and feedbacks. We will organize the 3rdinternational symposium on “Environmental Impact of Engineered Nanoparticles” inWuxi during May 6-7, 2017. The main theme of this symposium is “Implication and Applications of Engineered Nanoparticles in the Environment”. This symposium will invite 8 outstanding scientists from both abroad and China. The objectives of this symposium are to (1) present new findings in the field of “Environmental Behavior & Impact of Engineered Nanoparticles”; (2) discuss the new theories, approaches and technologies in this field; and (3) exchange new research ideas.
