Introduction

Welcome to the 2nd Asian Conference on Urban Planning and Sustainable Cities, which will precede the 72nd Hiroshima Peace Memorial and Remembrance Ceremony. UP-City 2017 will be August 1-3, 2017 at the Hiroshima KKR Hotel in partnership with the 4th Asian Symposium on Healthcare Without Borders and the 3rd International Conference on Advancing the Life Sciences and Public Health Awareness.

In addition to these events participants will have an opportunity to visit Hiroshima Peace Park and the famous shrine island of Miyajima — both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Submission Topics

  • Diversity and Justice

Topics on the Diversity and Justice track may include, but are not limited to, immigration issues, conflict, compromise and negotiation, methods for citizen participation, urban displacement, and gentrification.

  • Transportation and Development

Topics on the Transportation and Development Track may include, but are not limited to, transit, walkability, bicycle and pedestrian planning, mobility for vulnerable populations, equity issues, and infrastructure design.

  • Climate Change and Hazard Mitigation

Topics on the Change and Hazard Mitigation track may include, but are not limited to, modeling and planning for physical impacts of climate change, adaptation of infrastructure and institutions, GHG emissions adaptation, public risk perceptions, and disaster resilience.

  • Housing

Topics on the Housing track may include, but are not limited to, neighborhood dynamics, design considerations, housing need and vulnerability, affordable housing, informal housing, including resilience and tenure security, and recent trends in housing preferences.

  • Economic Development

Topics on the Economic Development track may include, but are not limited to, creative cities, cultural revival efforts, community development, industrial redevelopment, incentive structures and development strategies.

  • Environmental Management and Green Infrastructure

Topics on the Environmental Management and Green Infrastructure track may include, but are not limited to, ecosystem services, community food access, urban agriculture, environmental externalities of development, environmental justice, drivers and disparities in health outcomes and food access, and making livable and healthy communities.
