Introduction

In today’s borderless world, policy-making has become increasingly challenging as not only domestic factors have to be taken into account but also external shocks emanating from other parts of the world. As the Faculty of Economics and Administration celebrates its 50th anniversary, it is timely to organize a conference to invite academics, researchers, industry players and regulators from around the world to take stock of what has been achieved, discuss economic issues currently faced by the world, bringing to the fore ideas on what policies are needed to surmount challenges both domestic and external. The faculty believes that economic analysis should have direct policy implications that guide policymakers in their quest for the right policies to achieve desired goals. This inaugural International Conference on Applied Economics and Policy (ICAEP) 2017 aims to provide a platform for the interactions and networking among participants from around the world.
