The aim of the Conference is to bring together scientists and contributions from contemporary research on children's literacy development in first and second/foreign/additional language. Recent findings point at multiple understandings of literacy, one of the core human competencies, for successful social participation. Therefore, literacy development from an early age should focus on a range of different literacy types. It should be emphasised that the term literacy also involves teaching children to read and to understand various text genres, not only with the aim of being informed, but also with the aim of aesthetically experiencing literary work.
8th International Conference Children And Languages Today welcomes presentations focusing on the following areas of interest:
1. Emergent and early literacy
2. Functional literacy
3. Cross-linguistic influences, linguistic landscape and literacy development
4. Children's literature and literacy development
5. Media and literacy development
