Introduction

The IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks (DSN) has a distinctive approach to accidental and malicious faults under a common body of knowledge. Today, it is the most prestigious international forum for presenting advanced and innovative research results, problem solutions, practices, and insights on new challenges in the field of dependable and secure computing.

DSN is the flagship conference for research furthering robustness and resilience of today’s wide spectrum of computing systems. Indeed, dependability and security concerns can no longer be tackled in isolation, from general IT to the internet-of-things, cyber-physical systems and application areas.

Luxembourg City, the multicultural capital of the Grand Duchy, will be the backdrop of DSN 2018. Located in the heart of Europe, Luxembourg combines historical heritage with modernity. Apart from hosting the European Parliament and the European Court of Justice, the Grand Duchy is also home to all major companies in the financial sector, and an increasing number of big players in IT such as Skype and Amazon have established their European headquarters here. Although Luxembourg is only slightly over 2.500 km² in size, companies like SES, Luxspace and initiatives like SpaceResource point out that the Grand Duchy occupies much more space in space than on the ground!

DSN’s scope covers all aspects of dependable and secure systems and networks. Their intersection with innovative architectures, protocols, and algorithms, performance models, dependability, and security evaluation is of particular interest, as is the process of experimentation and assessment. Authors are invited to submit original papers on research and on the practice of creating, validating, deploying, and maintaining such systems.

The conference program will include plenary talks, regular papers, experience reports, an industrial track, a student forum, a fast abstract track, together with state-of-the-art workshops and tutorials. We need your contribution and participation to make it a successful event. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Luxembourg in June 2018.

The scope of DSN includes all aspects of dependable and secure systems and networks, namely when considered in combination, including innovative architectures, protocols, and algorithms, as well as experimentation with and assessment of dependable and secure systems. Under the above perspective, DSN’s current thematic areas of emphasis are:

  • Hardware (e.g., microprocessors, system on chip, storage systems, trusted computing)
  • Software (e.g., applications, middleware, operating systems)
  • Cyber-physical systems (e.g., embedded systems, internet of things, smart grid, automotive, aerospace, medical systems)
  • Socio-technical systems (e.g., virtual worlds, human-computer interaction, social networking)
  • Clouds (e.g., cloud storage, computing, platforms, applications, cloud security and privacy)
  • Networks (e.g., wireless networks, mobility, software-defined networking, intrusion detection systems, network security)
  • Models and methodologies for programming, evaluating, and assessing dependable systems (e.g., performance and dependability evaluation, analytical and numerical methods, simulation, experimentation, benchmarking, verification, field data analysis)
