Introduction

Smart cities are recognized as the developing platform to drive progressive change. They are considered to be the propellers of economic growth and conventional development. Smart Cities Mission as launched by the Govt. of India is and urban renewal and retrofitting program with a mission to develop 100 cities all over the country making them citizen friendly and sustainable. It is estimated that about 40% of the population will be living in the cities by 2030. With the rapid rise in the population living in the cities it is quite necessary to increase the sustainability of the cities. The objective of the smart cities is to use digital communication and system network to have optimization in the use of resources like energy, water, transportation and infrastructure and improve governance, health care and waste management. Smart Cities require continuous power supply, which essentially requires having strong and smart transmission and distribution systems. As a part of this mission it is quite essential to modulate the electrical power requirement with a focus on its safety, security, efficiency and better utilization.

The objective of ICSESP-2018 is to analyse and therefore provide a better standard of living via improved and automated mechanisms by embedding latest technologies which entail incessant supply of power. It provides a platform to bring together all the academicians and researchers to understand and review the challenges that creates disturbance in the poor power distribution network. In this regard smart grids provide and elegant solution through which the various interconnected planning and activities automatically redistributes the power according to the use and thereby eliminating any imbalance in electricity distribution and consumption while saving a lot of energy and minimizing the scope of energy wastage and theft. As our Temple City, Bhubaneswar is declared as the Smartest City in the country, this conference would chalk out plans and nurture ideas to make our city a leading example for others.

The objective of the conference will be

  • To avoid blackouts through microgrids and distributed generation
  • To analyze development of infrastructure focusing on electrification of transportation

  • To enhance computing and telecommunication systems to improve efficiency
