Introduction

On 14 September 2015 the LIGO detector observed a transient gravitational wave (GW) signal for the first time. The Nobel Prize in Physics 2017 is shared by Rainer Weiss, Barry C. Barish and Kip S. Thorne, for their decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of GWs. The direct detection of GWs initiates a new era of GW astronomy and GW cosmology. The GW physics is not only related to gravitational physics, but also closely related to particle physics, cosmology and astrophysics.To further motivate and promote the research of gravitational wave physics and relevant fields in China, we are going to organize the workshop on gravitational wave physics and detection at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, which will be held in 15-28th July,2018. The topics will be

GW sources, ground-based and space-based GW detections, GW astronomy and cosmology.
