During the startup process of gas-steam combined cycle unit, compared with the gas turbine, the steam turbine spends longer time starting up, and that leads to additional energy waste and environmental pollution. It also makes it difficult for the unit to respond quickly to the need for power grid peak shaving. Based on this, this paper takes a combined cycle unit as the research object and analyzes the shortage of the original startup process, and then proposes an optimization scheme. First, the thermal stress of the turbine rotor is calculated by the finite element method during the original starting process. Then, under the premise of not increasing the maximum stress and not reducing the safety margin, the start-up process is optimized. The improved startup method can shorten the startup time of the unit, and has obvious economic and environmental benefits. To be specific, it can save electricity by 4900MWh and reduce NOx emissions by 1500kg per year.
