Heat and mass transfer of stable steam jet condensation in a rectangular mix chamber

Mass transfer coefficient plays a significant role in numerical simulation of steam condensation with water. To evaluate the mass transfer of stable steam jet condensation in a rectangular mix chamber, flow field was filmed by a high speed camera experimentally. By a thermal equilibrium phase change model, total energy transferred from steam jet to water during condensation was separated into heat transfer part and mass transfer part, and then the heat transfer energy and mass transfer energy were compared and analyzed. Finally, the mass transfer coefficient was calculated, and its change with test conditions was also investigated. The results indicated that, the mass transfer energy was much larger than that of heat transfer, with increasing water mass flux, the mass transfer coefficient increased significantly, while changed little with water temperature, and the mass transfer process controlled the energy transfer of steam jet condensation. Finally, an empirical correlation was proposed to predict the average mass transfer coefficient, and the discrepancies between predicted and experimental values were within?0%.
