Turbine-generated Missiles Probabilistic Safety Assessment for Unit 5&6 of Fuqing NPP

In general, two modes of turbine rotor failure can result in turbine missile generation: (a) rotor material failure due to stress corrosion cracking and (b) failure of the overspeed protection system. Since the turbine missile is an important missile source of nuclear power plants, the failure probability of structures, systems, and components important to safety shall be analyzed, and the risk for turbine missile shall be evaluated. This study analyzes the generation probability of turbine missile with different failure modes, and calculates the strike probability of turbine missile with plant layout based on modeling approximations and simplifying assumptions, and gets the CDF of turbine missile for Unit 5&6 of Fuqing NPP. So as to direct plant layout and protection design complying with the guidance requirement, thereby avoiding design modification and relevant cost, and provides the technical basis for multi-reactor PSA of turbine missile.
