A transient model to evaluate carbon deposition in SOFCs’ anode
SOFC; carbon deposition; transient model
Abstract Accepted
A three dimensional transient model was developed based on SOFCs’ geometric model. The model couples momentum transfer equation, mass transfer equation and the kinetics model of methane steam reforming based on Ni/Al2O3. The kinetics model considered three types reactions-gas phases reactions, carbon deposition reactions and carbon gasification reactions. Besides, a comprehensive gas transfer model (Dusty gas model) was considered to describe gas transfer in porous media. Variation of porosity and catalytic activity with time was studied with different 9 inlet gas cases (different mole ratio of CH4/H2O). The result showed that carbon deposition drops with the enhancement of mole ratio of H2O/CH4, which can be explained as a dynamic balance between carbon deposition reaction and carbon gasification reaction. Besides, a poor catalytic activity can be observed at the fuel inlet, which can be expected as the severe domain of carbon deposition.
