Boost converter is a kind of dc-dc converter which can convert a low voltage to a high voltage, and dual closed-loop proportional-integral (PI) controller has been widely utilized for Boost converter control in practical. Dual closed-loop PI composes of a voltage outer loop and a current inner loop, and thus, can not only gain the zero steady state regulation for output voltage, but also limit the current to safety. However, the overshoot and settle time of current regulation cannot be compromised due to the linear regulation feature of PI controller, especially in the starting-up and overload situations, in which the operating point deviates from the rated one. To fix this problem, this paper proposes an inductor slope control method for the current inner loop, which can directly control the slope of inductor current to a certain value, and thus, avoiding the overshoot of inductor current to trigger the protection thresholds during dynamical process of regulation. In this paper, the analysis and control principle design of such a method is analyzed in detail. The simulation and experimental verification are also given to verify the validity.
