Over 2,500 of our finest peers came together, connected and created impressions and memories that will last a lifetime, or at the very least till we meet again in 2021 for the 63rd ISI World Statistics Congress at The Hague in The Netherlands.
One of the many firsts at this year’s congress was the focus on the women who are at the forefront of statistics and data science. It was indeed a milestone and a proud moment in the history of the World Statistic Congress to have 5 women presidents from top associations presenting papers on leading vital developments.
Every World Statistics Congress strives to present a rich scientific program and this year was no different. More than 1,300 papers in various statistical disciplines and applications were enthusiastically presented and discussed animatedly over the past five days by statistical researchers, academia, industry practitioners, analysts and policymakers from all over the world. We were enlightened by developments in statistical science and shifted paradigms to embrace the advanced application of statistics in innovation and decision-making.
Even before the scientific programme commenced, we were already in full swing participating in satellite seminars, meetings and short courses. Your enthusiasm was nothing short of commendable and we are all so much richer in knowledge because of it.
Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t just all serious work and if truth be told, I daresay that one of the more popular highlights of this year’s congress was experiencing “Malaysia by Night”; an evening that was full of feasting and camaraderie as we soaked in the cultural extravaganza that was just a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage that Malaysia has been blessed to enjoy.
Before I sign off, I would like to congratulate the winners of the numerous awards who were recognised for their achievements. I salute all of you for your extraordinary efforts. I would also like to thank all the committee members who have worked tirelessly and silently behind the scenes to ensure that the 62nd ISI World Statistics Congress was a fun and enjoyable one for all of you.
Selamat berjumpa lagi means till we meet again, and that is truly my sincere wish. May you all have a safe and pleasant journey home until we come together again.
Thank you for the memories.
