Microstructure and Properties of Particle-Reinforced Inconel 625 Coatings by Wire-Powder Synergistic High-Speed Laser Cladding

Two particle-reinforced Inconel 625 coatings were prepared via wire-powder synergistic high-speed laser cladding. In this process, Inconel 625 was employed as the feeding wire, while B4C and Cr3C2 particles served as the feeding powders. The phase composition and microstructure of the two coatings were analyzed, and the microhardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the two coatings were evaluated. The results indicate that the main phase in both coatings is γ-Ni. The microstructure of both coatings is fine and dense, with segregation of Nb, Cr, Mo, and C elements at the grain boundaries, which indicated precipitation of the Laves phase. Moreover, unmelted Cr3C2 particles were observed in the middle of the Inconel 625+Cr3C2 coating. The microhardness distribution of both coatings is uniform, with the Inconel 625+B4C coating exhibiting a higher microhardness than the Inconel 625+Cr3C2 coating. The Inconel 625+B4C coating showed better wear resistance. Both coatings showed passivation during the electrochemical test, the Inconel 625+Cr3C2 coating showed better corrosion resistance. In conclusion, the Inconel 625+B4C coating showed better wear resistance than the Inconel 625+Cr3C2 coating, which showed better corrosion resistance.
