Abstract
The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) is a key element in the climate system for its capacity of redistributing energy and matter at regional and global scales. Understanding the AMOC variability and its cause is thus vital for a confident projection of our future climate. Since wind is a crucial driver of ocean dynamics, we examine the impact of winds on the overturning changes across the Atlantic Ocean using a dynamically-consistent ocean state estimate. We will examine the impact from the wind-driven volume transports on the AMOC variability, and discuss the underlying processes and the associated time scales.
