Abstract
The coastal zone provides vital resources to support various life styles. The full exploitation of marine resources requires the support of advanced ocean monitoring equipment. However, the realization of long endurance operation of detection equipment has been one of the constraints for researchers to observe and monitor ocean systems. The seawater battery uses the ocean water as the electrolyte and has the characteristic of realizing in-situ energy supply. However, conventional dissolved oxygen seawater batteries suffer from low volumetric power density levels. Therefore, it is significant to study seawater batteries with high energy density, high safety performance and high power output to solve the problem of in-situ supply of energy for marine equipment, which is meaningful to the ocean economy as well as the sustainable application of the ocean equipment. This paper presents a method to harvest wave energy to drive the cathode rotation of a seawater battery. The seawater battery constructs active flow field through wave energy, and breaks through the seawater battery mass transfer barrier, reduces the thickness of diffusion layer, improves the seawater battery oxygen capture efficiency, and realizes high power density output. This method provides a viable solution for long endurance operation of ocean sensors.
