In this paper, an improved finite control set model predictive current control (FCS-MPCC) method is proposed to reduce the torque and current fluctuations of variable flux memory machines (VFMMs). In order to solve the problem of excessive computation due to the excessive number of candidate voltage vectors in the traditional FCS-MPCC method, a new two-step selection method is adopted to re-divide the vector selection region and determine the optimal vector step by step. Meanwhile, based on the new cost function and extended state sliding mode observer, the dynamic response and robustness of the VFMM control system are considerably improved. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control method are verified by simulation.
