The non-sinusoidal back-electromotive force (NSB-EMF) and the nonlinearity of the inverter give rise to significant periodic current ripple, which poses a substantial obstacle to the advancement of the conventional single-vector model predictive control (SV-MPC) for voltage source inverters (VSIs). To mitigate current harmonics, this paper puts forward a novel hybrid model predictive control approach for motor drives founded on current harmonic extraction. Firstly, a body vector is defined and selected through the SV-MPC method. Subsequently, a current harmonics extractor is crafted to extract harmonics. Based on the extracted harmonics, the second optimal voltage vector is selected as a branch vector. Eventually, the two selected voltage vectors (VVs) are combined. Moreover, a new scheme for calculating the duty cycle is devised. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
