Introduction

Since 1999, the Cross-Strait Symposium on Tunnel and Underground Engineering has successfully held 23 editions, providing an excellent technical exchange platform for scholars and engineers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait in the field of tunnel and underground engineering. Participants engage in candid exchanges, learn from each other’s strengths, and jointly advance planning, design, and construction technologies in this field. With rapid development of municipal tunnels, high-speed railway tunnels, metro tunnels, and cross-river/cross-sea tunnels, complex geological tunnel projects are continuously emerging. The demand for whole-life-cycle safety assurance of underground engineering is increasingly prominent; meanwhile, disaster prevention and structural resilience issues in operational tunnels are becoming more severe. There is an urgent need to innovate concepts and technical systems for tunnel safety management, driving safety upgrades through new technologies, methods, and frameworks such as intelligent monitoring, smart early warning, and resilient design.

This 24th edition focuses on “Smart Disaster Prevention and Resilience Enhancement for Tunnels and Underground Engineering”, aiming to continue offering a technical exchange opportunity for scholars and engineers across the strait, and to conduct in-depth discussions on key issues in the field, collectively tackling challenging problems.
