the 5th International Barcode of Life Conference

We are happy to announce that 2013 is the 10 year anniversary of DNA barcoding and we plan to celebrate this milestone in Kunming, China. The Chinese Academy of Science and Kunming Institute of Botany are pleased to be hosting this year’s conference. 　　The conference will consist of four days of plenary and parallel sessions. Preconference events, such as discussion meetings focusing on advances in sequencing and informatics techniques will be held on the Sunday before the conference. There is also a Training Course associated with the conference (max 20 delegates). 　　Past conferences have brought together participants from over 60 countries, including researchers, students, government officials, and representatives of NGOs and private companies. This year’s conference hosts, the Chinese Academy of Science and Kunming Institute of Botany, have provided a venue that hosts up to 500 participants. 　　The theme of the conference is “Global Change and the Barcode of Life: Challenges and Opportunities”. Like previous meetings, the 5th Conference will provide a very important opportunity for delegates from around the world to showcase and discuss scientific advances in DNA barcoding and the wide-ranging socio-economic applications made since the Adelaide Conference in 2011. It will also allow barcode researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas, plan new research, and learn more about barcoding activities in China and other regions. 　　We hope to see you in Kunming.
