Introduction
The scope of HONET_CNS covers various layers and all spans of communication networks, cyber-security, e-applications and the technologies spanning and enabling our social networks. Global ICT networks engines for the high-speed internet by utilizing various photonic- and RF wireless-networks, spanning millions of fiber-optic links over the vast landscape and numerous satellites hovering over the planet. These are the workhorse for Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) from the architectural, security, signal transport and application perspectives. Photonic, Optoelectronic, and Wireless modes of communication complement each other and enable various communication technologies that are now the life-lines of our world. These are the disciplines that have emerged from the “fundamental electromagnetic phenomena and light-matter interaction” and enable of ICT and numerous engineering applications. It starts from fundamental principles of electromagnetic waves generation, propagation and detection; both in RF and optics regime involving semiconductors and optical materials and encompasses the micro/nano-fabrication of semiconductor devices, components, and functional modules and sub-assemblies. On the application side, such devices enable the ICT and constitute physical layer of contemporary infrastructure.
Consistent with the past events, IEEE/IEEE ComSoc is the technical co-sponsor of HONET_CNS 2013. The 10th International Conference will be hosted by Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus. HONET is now a full conference serving the region with a broad global participation. It spans over multi-tracks in various ICT disciplines, global e-applications, communications, signal processing, audio, image and video processing, network security and forensic, data compression, and emerging technologies e.g., nanotechnology for ICT, and energy-harvesting devices and materials. HONET_CNS will also include focused workshops and specialized short-courses co-located with the main conference. HONET_CNS' 2013 will span over three days of technical and visionary presentations as well as an industrial show/exhibits. It will include keynote address and various plenary sessions in areas consistent with the theme and objectives. As a part of its legacy, the major objective of the 10th HONET_CNS as an International Conference is to bring together participants from US, Cyprus (host), Mediterranean and SAMENA (South-Asia, Middle-East, & North-Africa) regions, as well as other world-wide researchers, educators, students, and industry professionals for sharing the knowledge and experience and furthering collaborations.
The HONET_CNS 2013 thematic focus spans over the “Role of ICT in Social Networking”. HONET_CNS has now a broader appeal of “Emerging/Enabling Technologies”, in addition to various communications and networking areas it covers photonics and other complementary communication technologies as well as optics and nanotechnologies in medicine and information processing. It covers nanophotonics for high-speed internet from building-block components to energy efficiency, e-science and e-healthcare; cloud computing, network security and enabling technologies.
