Symposium H: Ceramics for Medicine, Biotechnology and Biomimetics

Bioceramics, or ceramics-based biomaterials are an important subset of biomaterials, which have good biocompatibilities and essential applications in many areas including orthopedic and dental implants, diagnoses, drug delivery, targeted cancer therapies, and surface modifications of metals. There are currently three classes of bioceramics according to different tissue responses: nearly inert ceramics (such as alumina and Zirconia), bioactive ceramics (such as Bioglass and glass-ceramics), and bioresorbable ceramics (such as calcium phosphate). This symposium will bring scientists, engineers and young students together to share the recent achievements on design, modeling and processing of novel bioceramics and their successful applications. Particularly, it will focus on the new bioceramics as medical implants, bioceramic-based novel biotechnologies, biomineralization, and biomimetics.
