Following the success of the 1st International Workshop on Service Life Design for Underground Structures held in Shanghai, 2006 and the 2nd international symposium on Service Life design for Infrastructure held in Delft, the Netherlands, 2010, the 3rd conference on this topic is scheduled at 15-17 October 2014, in Zhuhai, China, where the world largest bridge linking Hong Kong, Zhuhai (mainland) and Macau is under construction.
In the past few years more and more attention has been devoted to the safety and serviceability as well as durability and sustainability of structures. Meanwhile there are intensive research and development activities going on, e.g. on environmental attack, materials properties, deterioration mechanisms, geometric- and structural design, execution aspect and maintenance. Furthermore codes and standards on service life design are being discussed and partially established worldwide.
It is now time to present a focused picture of the current status and future trends in this field, including theory, practice and education. The aim of the conference is thus to provide a forum to researchers and practitioners for presenting the newest findings and to discuss their new ideas on service life design and serviceability of infrastructural works, effectiveness of service life design methods and experiences from the practice gained up to now. The organizers encourage researchers and engineers, to submit an abstract related to the service life design and serviceability of infrastructures in general and concrete structures in particular.
