Introduction
The development of materials and components for high-temperature will very much contribute to the energy saving, and development of new energy systems. The next generation will face the exhaustion of conventional energy resources. Without the progress of science and technology of the relevant fields, such target cannot be attained. The problems arising from energy conversion systems, operation of industrial plants, transport systems, materials recycling and prevention of environmental pollution are urgent issues to be tackled with. Accordingly, extensive research efforts in recent years have resulted in the development of high temperature materials including coating systems, building up data bases and life prediction softwares. The scopes of this symposium are to clarify the issues of high-temperature materials (alloys, intermetallics, ceramics, composites and coatings) under corrosive conditions at elevated temperatures and to discuss how to overcome the environmental attack. A particular emphasis will be paid to: 1 Materials degradation at ultra-high temperature 2 Materials for advanced energy conversion systems 3 High-temperature corrosion and oxidation in material processing
