The 2014 Gordon Conference on Transglutaminases in Human Disease Processes

Transglutaminases are a large family of structurally and functionally related proteins widely distributed in all living organisms. These enzymes are dysregulated and contribute to the pathogenesis of the most relevant human diseases, such as cancer, tissue fibrosis, infectious diseases, celiac disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and skin diseases. The 3rd Gordon Conference on "Transglutaminases in Human Disease Processes" will explore the frontiers on this rapidly expanding field. The meeting will cover cutting-edge research on the biology of transglutaminases with themes focusing on the biochemical pathways and cellular mechanisms involving Transglutaminases in human health and disease processes. Sessions will cover recent advances related to the following topics: Transglutaminases as regulators of cell survival and cell death modalities Transglutaminases as regulators of inflammatory disease Transglutaminases in oncogenesis and metastasis development Transglutaminases in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases Transglutaminases in celiac diseases Transglutaminases in matrix remodeling, aberrant wound healing and organ fibrosis Transglutaminases applications in biotechnology Approaches to inhibit Transglutaminase activity in human diseases The 2014 Gordon Research Conference will bring together the world’s leading researchers in this active field at Il Ciocco Hotel in Tuscany, Italy. This beautiful site is located on a natural park and provides an excellent setting for formal lectures and informal out-of-session discussions. In the spirit of the GRC Conference each talk will be structured to include ample time for discussion providing a unique platform for established investigators to present new findings and debate the important issues in the field as well as for junior scientists to participate in discussions. The poster sessions are an essential element to the success of the Conference, they represent a great opportunity for Post-Docs and graduate students to present their work under an informal relaxed atmosphere that fosters networking and idea sharing. The program will also include short talks selected from poster presentations.
