In recent years, the advanced development of nanotechnologies have led to a number of promising applications. These applications have been applied to various fields including healthcare, industry, as well as the military fields. Due to the miniature scale of nanomachines, a fundamental requirement is to enable them to collaborate collectively to achieve a common objective. This collaboration could be realized through communication and networking at the nanoscale. Through the communication and networking process, nanonetworks could be formed between these nanomachines. The interconnection of nanonetworks to the wider Internet is also envisioned in the future, leading to new directions for an Internet of Nano Things. However, unlike traditional communication systems, where devices have sufficient processing capabilities, this will be a major challenge at the nanoscale. Therefore, this brings along a new set of challenges, as well as new molecular and nanoscale communication paradigm. The objective of the 1st International Workshop on Nano-scale Computing and Communications (NsCC) is to foster this new area of research. The workshop will include papers that capture the current state-of-the-art in the field of molecular and nanoscale communications, e.g., information, communication and network theoretical analysis of molecular and nanonetworks, mobility in molecular and nanonetworks, novel and practical communication protocols, routing schemes and architectures, design/engineering/evaluation of molecular and nanoscale communication systems, as well as their potential applications and interconnection to the wider Internet (e.g. Internet of Nano Things). Since this is a highly inter-disciplinary area of research, the workshop will bring experts from both traditional areas of telecommunications, as well as other fields (e.g. nanotechnology, molecular biology, materials science) to help foster this new field going forward.
