Introduction

On behalf of the organizing committee, I am extremely happy to invite you to participate in the IEEE/CAS-EMB Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference, edition 2014. BioCAS 2014 will be held on October 22-24, 2014, at the new EPFL Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. The theme of the 2014 edition is a “Breakthrough for Distributed Diagnostics and Therapy”, highlighting the enormous potential that Circuits and Systems have in developing distributed diagnostics and therapy, the next generation of medical care! This Conference will be a high-standard event providing a scientific forum for scientists and students to interact and exchange ideas in the very rapidly growing area of development of innovative devices for biomedical applications. The conference will also be an occasion to present results and innovative solutions for today’s health problems at the frontiers of biomedical engineering. The conference aims to bring together on the EPFL campus scientists, engineers, technologists, medical researchers, and R&D leaders from all over the world to meet and discuss cutting-edge research in biomedical circuits and systems, as well as to solve complex health-service problems requiring interdisciplinary collaboration. BioCAS 2014 will be multidisciplinary in nature, comprising of an eclectic mix of insightful invited talks (have a look at the already accepted speakers!), demonstrations, and technical sessions. This conference will enable members of our communities to broaden their knowledge in emerging areas of research at the interface of the life sciences and the circuits and systems engineering discipline.
