Introduction

Human communication technology has a history as long as human race itself. Such technologies, from language, writing, print, electronic media, to the Internet, not only closely correlate with the development of human society, but also become symbols that define different historical phases. The latest CNNIC report, released in July 2015, witnessed 668 million Internet users in China. Among them, 594 million are mobile Internet users, representing 88.9% of Chinese netizens. The skyrocketing growth of mobile Internet technologies has pushed human communication activities to a whole new level, an age of mobile connection.

The sweeping trend of mobile Internet has introduced a myriad of issues that deserve scholarly scrutiny. How does mobile Internet change the ecology and pattern of Chinese media industry? What are the challenges and opportunities brought about by this new trend? How should media education adjust to the new environment to create future media leaders? The answers to these questions not only determine the future of Chinese journalism and communication education, but contribute to the right direction of Chinese media industry, and the overall information society as well.

As the most influential conference in the area of China new media communication research, the 2016 China New Media Communication Association Annual Conference will be held on May 13-15, 2016 at Zhejiang University. We cordially invite researchers around the world to participate in the discussion of “Mobile Connection and Communication Innovation”, and to stimulate the most valuable thoughts for the shift of Chinese media education and practice to the era of mobile Internet.
