Introduction

Following the success of the SPIE Modern Technologies in Space- and Ground-based Telescopes and Instrumentation conferences in previous years, this conference will continue to provide an opportunity and a forum for optical and opto-mechanical engineers and scientists to present and discuss advances and innovations in optical fabrication, optical devices, metrology, new materials, structures and mechanisms for space and ground-based astronomical telescopes, instrumentation and supporting facilities. Papers on novel techniques and devices are particularly encouraged, for instance new ideas for exploitation of photonic technologies in this field. The main emphasis of this conference will be on the optical and opto-mechanical aspects of components and subsystems; papers related to overall systems are covered elsewhere.
